IM228) NSW Inwards Mail: BOER WAR: 1901 (Dec.10) inwards cover addressed to Col. J.P. McGlinn/Adjutant NSW MR (Mounted Rifles), West Maitland, with ZAR ½d & 2d optd V.R.I.) tied by PRETORIA '10DEC01' datestamps, Press Censor/Pretoria triangular datestamp, WEST MAITLAND arrival datestamp, redirected to Paddington. NSW 1d Shield does not belong, cover with some minor spotting. John Patrick McGlinn served as a Lieutenant with NSW Mounted Rifles during the Second Boer War. At the time of receiving this letter he was working for the newly formed PMG's Dept as a linesman based in Maitland. At the onset of WWI he was personally selected by John Monash as his Brigade Major. He went on to serve in Gallipoli where appointed Acting Commander of the 4th Brigade in Imbros, whilst Monash was in Egypt. RARE! $359
AIM196) Switzerland 1940 small censored typed address airmail cover to Glenelg SA. Bears 1F 1923 Air, SG227a, cancelled by Zurich Oerlikon cds of 27.1.40. Red censor tape at left together with violet rectangular censor V85 cachet. Airmail covers of this period out of Switzerland are rare, especially to an Australia. Similar covers to the USA, who were not yet in the war sell for $125 plus. Price $195
AIM194) North Borneo 1947 small typed address airmail cover to Mechanic’s Institute Ballarat. Bears BMA 10c, 20c & 25c SG 343/5, cancelled by cds’s of Jesselton 30 AP 47. A few creases, but intact & clean cover. Rare! $225
